Before Lasik Eye Surgery

Ophthalmologists have already explained the procedure for you. You must arrive before the surgery itself take care of all the paperwork at the last minute. (Make sure that someone with you who can drive you home after surgery, because this is an outpatient procedure.) Remember that the only anesthetic you will be given a form of eye drops to numb the eye, and you will be awake throughout the procedure .

The doctor then will need a special tool to cut a hinged flap of corneal tissue thin and fold it while using the laser to reshape the cornea itself. The flap is then put back where it adheres to the cornea. A plastic or metal shield is then placed on the eye. The whole process takes between 10 and 15 minutes for each eye, in most situations.
